Here are nice scenic pictures of me and the Grand Canyon.
Much of the South Kaibab Trail follows the side of a ridge down to the Colorado River below.
This results in a hike with a lot of great views of the Grand Canyon.
However, being exposed with little shade, it can get very hot.
Deer drinking water from the Bright Angel Creek at the bottom of the Canyon.
Besides deer, the park rangers introduced us to scorpions that live in the Canyon.
For our day in the Canyon, we went for a hike in the Bright Angel Creek Gorge.
We were informed that the Bright Angel Creek Gorge is susceptible to flash floods,
so if you hear what sounds like a freight train approaching, get to higher ground!
The gang on a bridge over Bright Angel Creek. There are several bridges that cross over the creek as the trail moves from the east to the west side of the creek.
For our departure out of the Grand Canyon, we took the Bright Angel Trail.
This trail follows a creek up to the top.
This was the preferred route as it offers more shade for the ascent.
We started hiking out at sunrise.
There were switchbacks as we went up the side of the gorge.
It was going to be 10 hours to hike out of the Canyon. Here the gang is taking a break on the trail.
Much of the hike in the bottom portion of the trail was in a gorge and thus in the shade. Once we got to the upper portion of the Bright Angel Trail, we were in the sunshine.
The Bright Angel Trail is cut into the side of a gorge formed by Garden Creek.

We don't look any worse for wear!
